Since receiving notice of our successful application for funding through arts Queensland to help fund
the BARI festival, it has been full steam ahead. The committee of representatives from each ari
involved has meet fortnightly since early February to progress planning and implementation of the
project.
Lorence bendle has graciously given of his time to mentor and advise the group on the ins and outs of
delivering a festival/exhibition of this nature. His experience and straight forward approach has been so
helpful and we are already seeing positive results from his advice.
The barifest.com website has been launched this month. Still very much bare bones it will be
developed over the next few months and be the main portal for people to learn more about the festival.
The application and info flyers go to print this week and should be out and about Brisbane no later
than the end of April.
The team is eagerly chasing sponsors and additional support for the festival and are excited about
some of the possibilities on the horizon.
Since applying for funding for the Bari Festival. S&m studios (one of the ARI’s involved) have
discovered that their landlord will not be renewing their lease this year. This is another example of the
inner-city development of old buildings which is resulting in displaced artists and initiatives.
Those artists involved in S&M studios have managed to stay relatively upbeat and have decided to
make this time a time for reevaluation and focus. As a result they have chosen to change their name
from S&M studios to Uncovers artist initiative. The guys from flipbook media who are a design,
photography, and art gallery business who are also based in west end has joined up as a BARI partner
and will be supplying uncovers artist initiative with the venue and gallery to present their part of the
project

well if you are thinking of applying for the BARI festival you are fast running out of time.
You now have only 4 days to post off your application. If you have any questions please
feel free to email or contact Sam.
There has been a little confusion around the terms and conditions so here are a
couple of points to consider.
- some people have been confused regarding the term emerging. The BARI
panel considers it to be not currently represented by a commercial gallery.
- the exhibition will continue for 3 full weeks after the festival weekend.
- if you have utilized a ARI in your artistic development this is you chance to give
a little back apply to the space which supported you and insure its survival.
